Shadeyheart hunted near the tall rocks. She was quietly stalking a mouse when she heard the snap of a twig. She crouched, hidden by shrubs. A two-leg came stepping out of the forest, following a path. It was carrying something, it looked like a long stick and parts of it gleamed in the sunlight. Shadey stared at the two-leg and its branch wide eyed. What was a two-leg doing this far in the woods? What were they doing with that stick? Suddenly she heard another noise that made her blood run cold. A bark. A dog came racing out from the forest, yapping away. It raced through the shrubs and didn't seem to notice her. Suddenly it stopped and let out a low growl. It cautiously padded toward where Shadeyheart lay. Shadey's heart began to pound and she began to shake. Had it found her? Should she run? Maybe it won't see you.. The voice said quietly. The dog stopped, its nose pointed right at her, its paw slightly raised. Then the two-leg raised the branch he carried. There was a clicking sound and a boom that sounded like thunder. Fire shot from the stick right toward Shadey...

Shadeyheart was knocked off her feet by the impact of the shot. She let out a quick gasp of shock and then found herself on the ground. Her heart began to race as she tried to scramble to her paws when a sudden firey pain exploded on her side. She whipped her head around to see a mangled, bloody wound and nearly fainted just looking at it. The pain was excrutiating, but with her life on the line she ignored it. The twoleg was parting the grasses now, searching for her, and the dog was yipping with excitement. Shadey tried to pull herself up but collapsed from exertion. The twoleg spotted her and frowned. It seemed annoyed to find a cat lying in the grass. Shadeyheart wasn't quite sure what it had expected to find, but she wasn't gonna wait around and find out. She desperately pulled herself to her paws and struggled through the tangled grasses, headed back to camp, and silently preying the dog and twoleg wouldn't follow.
